Introducing Steven Slate Drums from Yellow Matter Entertainment, a new drum sample library made for the professional mixer. Steven Slate has been making drum samples for some of the industry's top professionals for years, and now he brings his collection to the masses in a multi velocity, multisampled library. The drum library, which is currently shipping with both Drumagog GOG format and raw 24-bit WAV format on one disc, boasts a number of unique features: Each drum is sampled in three unique room environments known as the "Z" system. The Z1 set is the standard set, with a bit of overhead micing to give a punchy and dimensional sound. The Z2 set is a stereo set which has heavily compressed and eq'd room mics added in to create a larger then life sound that will stay huge sounding even in dense mixes....

Free Service Lets Children Call Santa Claus Directly
Posted Sunday, November 12, 2006 11:11:02 PM by Blog57 Team
Every Christmas, children across the world write thousands of letters to Santa Claus, asking for new bikes, TMX Elmo dolls and even their two front teeth. But today's sophisticated children prefer a more direct route to Saint Nick. The problem is, he's unlisted. Until now. With Santa's phone number in hand, children can leave a message for Santa Claus himself. It all starts with a visit to http://www.telsanta.com/. The free service, powered by TollFreeForwarding.com, uses Voicemail2myEmail(tm) technology to capture messages and deliver them by e- mail to anyone who signs up for the service. Children call a toll-free number and listen to a message from Santa. He will ask them to record their wish list. Moments after the child leaves his or her voice wish list, the message is delivered by e-mail to Mom or Dad with a .wav file of their child's wish list, in their child's voice....

Creative Zen V Plus gets rosy cheeks
Posted Friday, November 10, 2006 7:18:39 AM by Blog57 Team
Devicemakers are starting to cater to the feminine side and it seems the only way they know how to do it is to repackage existing products in a pink package. This is exactly what has happened with the Creative Zen V Plus. As you can probably guess, nothing has really changed in the spec department. You still have your choice of capacity ranging from 1GB to 4GB, a built-in FM tuner, line-in recording, and up to 20 hours of battery life. The tiny 1.5-inch color screen is good both for MP3/WAV/WMA/Audible audio and MPEG-4/WMV/DivX video. No word on whether they'll be charging a premium for the rosy cheeked edition, but it wouldn't at all surprise me if they tacked on an extra ten bucks or something. Read [Via techeblog.com] ....

Truly Pic 'N Roll FT602 (2GB, Titanium Gray)
Posted Wednesday, November 08, 2006 1:12:42 PM by Blog57 Team
With the launch of the Pic 'N Roll MP301 in June 2004, Truly became one of the first companies to offer an MP3 player with photo-viewing capabilities. Though its features were forward-thinking at the time, the player overall was flawed. Unfortunately, Truly with its latest release still hasn't managed to make its player user-friendly. The new Pic 'N Roll FT602 is an attractive device with plenty of desirable features, but its terrible interface and touchy audio quality spoils the experience. The FT602--available in Titanium Gray and Pink (both 2GB, for $149)--isn't terribly small, though it's certainly pocket-sized at 3x1.6x0.5 inches and 1.9 ounces. And we're pleased to note that a generous screen, at 1.8-inches diagonal, dominates the front of the player. While crisp and bright for reading text, the display can make photos and videos look jagged and blurry at times....

TrekStor vibez DAP gets US pricing / release info
Posted Tuesday, November 07, 2006 3:13:40 PM by Blog57 Team
Despite the fact that most of the "high-resolution photographs" of its vibez MP3 player still look like concept renderings, German manufacturer TrekStor claims that the 1-inch hard drive-based DAPs will nonetheless be in US stores by the end of the year. You probably recall from our previous write-up that the curvaceous vibez comes in either 8GB, 12GB, or 15GB capacities, and features a 1.5-inch TFT display, replaceable 20-hour battery, and a rubber scroll wheel for sorting through your tunes even during a heavy downpour. Although MP3, WAV, WMA, OGG, and FLAC files are supported out of the box, you'll need to buy separate modules if you want to endow these units with an FM tuner or video playback (add-on cards featuring either the former or both the former and the latter will be available next year)....

Kenwood unleashes the "Supreme DAP"
Posted Thursday, November 02, 2006 3:05:02 PM by Blog57 Team
I'm not exactly sure what makes this MP3 player so special, but Kenwood is marketing it as the "Supreme DAP". Available in 1GB (M1GC7) and 2GB (M2GC7) variations, the apparently nano-sized player takes care of your MP3, WMA, WAV, and DRM9 music collection and keeps you in the know with what appears to be a color (if not full color) display. It gets juiced by a pair of AAA batteries, comes with some spiffy-looking earbuds, and will ship in a variety of tones. No word on pricing or availability. ....
