Tomato U20 PMP - Not so special
Posted Friday, February 02, 2007 1:05:01 PM by Blog57 Team
Cupertino has Apple, and Korea has Tomato. The electronics maker named after the main ingredient in ketchup has created the U20 personal media player, and despite their rather creative company name, the U20 isn't all that special in terms of design or functionality. It's not even red like a cherry (tomato). Instead, it sports a rather standard brushed metal finish, a five-way navigation keypad, and a retro power switch. The slight curviness is a nice touch, though, happily complimenting the 2-inch TFT LCD. File support includes MP3, MP4, WMV, and ASF formats, whereas the extra goodies are things like FM radio, JPEG photo viewer, and "games." Available in 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB flavors (each with miniSD expansion for more storage), the Tomato U20 PMP isn't quite ripe enough for North American consumption at this time (i.e., probably Korea or Asia-only)....

Fernando Alonso had only words of praise for McLaren's MP4-22 after completing the first shakedown of the new car at Valencia on Wednesday. The Spaniard, who joined McLaren from Renault at the start of the season, put the newly launched car through its paces at the Spanish circuit, conducting initial system checks as well as engine mapping. However, the MP4-22 did suffer one problem, an oil leak that forced Alonso to park the car in the McLaren pits at around 3pm. An hour later, though, the Spaniard was back on track and managed to post the fastest lap time of the day, a 1:12.050."I am very happy after today's shakedown in the MP4-22. We achieved our principle objectives, with regards how the car felt to drive," Alonso said. "I am familiar with the MP4-21 as I tested it for one day last year, so there were no great surprises....

With SolidAlliance too busy creepin' out the kids, who better than Thanko to bring the Shenzhen Adragon Digitek's MP4 watch to market? That's right, starting today in Japan, the 1GB model is all yours for ¥14,800 (about $125) or ¥18,800 (about $159) for the 2GB version. Besides playing videos on that eye-corrosive 1.5-inch, 128x128, 260k color display, this watch will also playback MP3/WMA files which can be easily transfered in USB storage mode and listened to over standard 2.5-mm headphones. Just remember, "MP4" players of Chinese origin does not mean support for MPEG-4 video. In fact, this watch appears to support AVI, MPEG and WMV video formats but only after conversion into wildly popular NXV. Still interested? [Via Impress] ....

Unimpressed by Windows Media Player 11

When Microsoft made the newest version of their Windows Media Player available for download earlier this week, I decided to put it through its paces with my extensive media library. The first look at the Windows Media Player shows what looks to be a massively changed interface and for the most part it is. Like IE 7 and the upcoming Office 2007, Windows Media Player has switched from a predominantly menu based toobar to a menu free toolbar with large funtion buttons (though as in those applications the Classic Menus can be restored). The default toolbar buttons in Windows Media Player 11 are Now Playing, Library, Rip, Burn, Sync and Urge (a built-in link to the Urge online music store). However, while the look of Windows Media Player has changed, much of the functionality and usability remains pretty much the same....

Drag and drop files from the PC and PSP just as you should have been able to right from the start... Author: Chris Leyton | Date Added: 01/11/2006 As the PSP continues to struggle with its own identity in face of the prevailing success of the Nintendo DS, Sony Computer Entertainment today confirmed the release of an updated Media Manager for the handheld as a "content organiser", in a last-ditch attempt to target an alternative market that hasn't been turned on by Brain Training and Nintendogs.Facilitating the easy transfer of content between a PC and PSP, Sony Media Software's allows PSP owners to transfer video, photos, documents, podcasts and music with a drag-and-drop technique, whilst a media-previewing feature assists in the flow of content. Media Manager supports a wide range of file formats (listed below) and will automatically convert files to those that the PSP recognises."We are delighted to launch Media Manager for PSP in Europe....
