With the increase in popularity of the Mp3 player, so has the need for downloadable songs increased. The end of 2005 saw record breaking sales of Mp3's downloaded from the internet. MP3 songsThis is believed to be due to the amount of Mp3 players that were given as gifts during the Christmas season.

There is no shortage of Mp3 songs available for download from the internet. Some are free of charge, usually given as an incentive to users to purchase more, but most Mp3 downloads charge a small fee. In an attempt in increase revenues, music studios are probably going to increase these download fees.

There are many reasons why Mp3's are so popular. Besides the fact that they are compact, light and portable, the user can download a variety of songs of their choice - love songs, and classical music tracks - you name it, it can be downloaded.

The user is therefore not limited to a whole album, nor do they have to carry around a file of discs to play. Relatively unknown bands can also make their music available on Mp3 without the expensive costs of a recording studio and cutting a CD. They are also able to post just a song or two for downloading off the internet, instead of having to produce an entire album. Mp3's have broadened the horizons of the music industry.

The recording industry won an important round in its lawsuit against XM Satellite Radio when the judge ruled that the case can proceed towards trial. The legal scrap is over receivers / recorders that XM is marketing as XM + MP3 players. Many of the receivers XM is selling offer up to 50 hours of recording time that can be set in advance. Plus, many of the players have the capability of recording an entire song, even though the user presses the "record" button after the song begins playing. The recording industry says these features violate copyright because they allow users to compile and organize a library of music without actually purchasing the songs. So far, XM has claimed that its receivers operate well within the fair use rights granted by the Audio Home Recording Act of 1992....

Parlez-vous podcast? The language czars behind the Oxford English Dictionary gave the snappy word for online audio programs an entry in 2005. Now the podcast is becoming a popular way for word buffs and foreign language enthusiasts to learn something new. Last month Coffee Break Spanish, a weekly beginning Spanish language podcast, surged onto the list of top podcast downloads at Apple's iTunes Store. The iTunes Store alone lists more than 100 free podcasts focusing on languages from Turkish to Tagalog. Gone are the days of pricey foreign language textbooks and lengthy lectures. All it takes is a high-speed Internet connection to download lessons and listen to them on a computer or a portable MP3 player. Here's a look at a few language podcasts we checked out: www.coffeebreakspanish.com This podcast features five-minute lessons from Mark, an experienced Spanish teacher, and Kara, a beginning Spanish student....

Plugged-in Santa

While last week's release of the Nintendo Wii and Sony's PlayStation 3 vaulted the next-generation gaming consoles to the top of many a Christmas wish list, just remember -- a gadget fan's heart knows no bounds. There are options aplenty, from cool (a device that sends your TV signal to your laptop) to goofy (an MP3-loving, dancing dog). Cameras and cellphones are more fully featured. New home theatre components make DVD-watching that much more enjoyable. If you're playing Santa to a tech buff, here's my broad survey of what you might stash under his or her tree. Samsung SPH-A920 The SPH-A920 is billed as the "Music Master" by its manufacturer Samsung. The sleek black unit holds up to 32 megabytes of music files. Songs can be quickly flipped through with a button on the phone's cover -- even if the clamshell is closed, a person can still browse his music library....

Warming Up To Hank Snow On The Philco

Today I was scrolling through the thousands of songs on my little MP3 player and then playing some of them while admiring the album art. After that, I listened to the built-in FM radio for a while. During all this the thought once again occurred to me it would be easy to take this technology for granted. I think I can honestly say I never do that, but it's probably common for some people to overlook how special this all is. I'm not talking about the music itself (which is another whole subject) but the way we listen to it. It's always been about getting the sound to our ears, but the gadgets we use to do that have been transformed through the years, and sometimes it's easy to forget how far we've come. Not counting hearing lullabies as a toddler, I think I first became aware of music when I was a young boy and heard it on the radio....

With its bright 7-inch touch screen display, useful and usable viewing menus, and range of movie audio options, the Dual XDVD8182 is one of the most capable in-car video systems we've seen. However, its audio capabilities are not so impressive. While we like the inclusion of an as-standard iPod connector, and the way in which users can operate their iPods via the touch screen, the unit's limited search capability leaves a lot to be desired in this age of 60GB players. All discs welcome With its screen stowed, the XDVD8182 operates similar to any garden-variety single-DIN car stereo. Two metallic twist dials and eight familiar audio control buttons can be used to operate the AM/FM tuner and CDs--including CD/R, CD/RW, WMA, and MP3-encoded discs. In its single-DIN configuration, volume can be controlled via the left-hand knob or the XDVD8182's remote control, while the right-hand dial can be used to skip through tracks, or curiously, to restart a track by pushing it in....

Microsoft to Embed Viral Growth into Zune MP3
Posted Sunday, October 29, 2006 11:17:56 AM by Blog57 Team
In what could be a masterful viral approach to growing a business that goes far beyond viral marketing, Microsoft is embedding viral expansion into its new iPod competitor, Zune. Users of the Zune MP3 player can send songs to friends over the devices Wifi who have three days to listen to them before they disable. If the recipient of the song decides to buy the song within the three day period, the sender of the song will receive a portion of the song's purchase price in the form of credits to be used towards purchasing music and other items from the Zune Marketplace. Currently, it's a rumor and it would certainly be difficult to topple iPod from its reigning position but the approach is indicative of what many brands should be doing to grow their business beyond just traditional advertising tonnage....
