Mp3 player - the mobile device of the future
Posted Monday, February 06, 2006 10:32:18 AM by Rose Martins

This past holiday season saw the sales of Mp3 players hit an all time high, and global sales are expected to double this year bringing the total figure of Mp3 sales to around 20 million devices. This portable media device is a convenient, light, compact and cool piece of technology.

MP3 playersBy 2010, sales worldwide have been predicted to top 194 million units. The technology companies such as Sony and Rio are all competing for their share of the market. The Apple Ipod is also a popular choice. So which Mp3 player is best?

That is a question that only you can answer. You need to carefully review the available options and make an informed decision when purchasing your Mp3 player. Expensive does not necessarily mean best. Sometimes a cheaper option will best suit your needs, and your pocket.

You can always upgrade at a later stage. With Mp3 players being the latest rage, there are a variety of large priced items for sale offering a free Mp3 player as an incentive to close the deal. There are also competitions offering Mp3 players as the prize. You need to purchase an item in order to qualify to enter the competition. Yet another example of an Mp3 player being used as an incentive to buy.

Hed Kandi's ravetastic MP3 Players
Posted Tuesday, November 14, 2006 1:19:14 PM by Blog57 Team
Hed Kandi is apparently a "world renowned music and club brand" and this new Hed Kandi MP3 player is claimed to be "the ultimate party in a box". Can't say I'd be blown away with a party based around a brightly-coloured 512MB player, but if you're liking Hed Kandi's work, you'll probably like this. The casing is in pink or white and designed like the stylised album sleeves. The 512MB storage will hold around 240 tracks, with Hed Kandi giving you a start on that front, throwing in five starter tunes. There's also a hidden OLED display (which shows when you power it up), it's good for both MP3 and WMA (plus DRM) and it also operates as a voice recorder. The rechargeable battery should give you around 12 hours use. Available now - £59.99. Find out more Came straight to this page? Visit www.TechDigest.tv for all the latest news....

MP3-war is coming Zune
Posted Tuesday, November 14, 2006 3:19:05 AM by Blog57 Team
Microsoft's sturdy Zune foot soldiers will march out on Tuesday in an improbable mission to topple Apple's world champion iPod MP3-player. Zune echoes iPod's design but is steeped in Microsoft functionality instead of Apple panache. "Zune is either going to take off like a rocket or it is not going to go anyplace," analyst Rob Enderle of Enderle Group in Silicon Valley told AFP. "There is no middle ground. It is different enough that it could surprise Apple." Each Zune has a 30-gigabyte media player and is priced at $250, on par with an iPod with an equal amount of memory space. Music for the devices will be sold on the Internet at Zune Marketplace in a manner similar to the exclusive mating of iPod and Apple's online iTunes shop. Zune players feature wireless technology; built-in FM tuners and three-inch (7.6-centimetre) screens....

Grooves on the move

The MP3 file format is here to stay and if you want to take advantage of its excellent sound quality and compression whilst away from your PC, an MP3 player should be top of your To buy list. MP3 players have evolved a great deal since they first arrived on the scene almost ten years ago. Rather than offering only music playback, many players now feature extras such as FM functionality, photo viewing, video playback and more. Their memory capacities have also increased thanks to higher density flash memory becoming available and smaller sized - yet larger capacity - hard drives. Both flash and hard drive-based MP3 players are available, however from running this test we know that most vendors are focusing on flash players. In fact in this round-up not one companys player is based on hard drive technology....

Amazon reckons MP3 players date back to 1973

ONLINE RETAIL giant Amazon.com says the MP3 player was invented as far as 1973. Not only that, the interweb store was apparently operating even before the commercial Web became a reality. Shurely shome mischtake. Diamond Rio PMP-300 listing on Amazon.com - So far, all normal By chance, I did a web search and landed on the Amazon.com listing for one of the first MP3 players, the Diamond Rio PMP-300. If you are an old timer you will remember that this player virtually created the pocket-digital-audio-player marketplace, and sparked a lawsuit from the same music firms that now want us to swallow DRM. Amazon.com lists the outdated device's specs, but then on the same page informs readers that the device was "first available at Amazon.com: September 4, 1973". September 1973? Apparently, this is not the only item that the stealth Amazon.com web site has been carrying since September, 1973: the Canon Powershot S100 2MP digital camera, like the Rio PMP-300, was apparently also available shortly after The Beatles released their red and the blue albums on vinyl....

Fine tune: Handset cos hit the right notes

HELSINKI: Consumers are increasingly snapping up mobile phones with built-in music players, and sales far outstrip shipments of dedicated MP3 music players, the world's top handset maker Nokia said in an interview. "The technology is completely ready, and the change in consumers' habits has started. The best evidence is our sales number. We are selling huge amounts," Tommi Mustonen, director at Nokia's multimedia unit said in an interview. Mr Mustonen said the company aimed to sell 80m music devices this year, up from 46.5m in '05. Nokia is not alone. The world's fourth-largest handset maker Sony Ericsson has benefited in recent quarters from strong sales of a line-up of Walkman music-playing handsets, of which it sold 15m in its first year. By contrast, Apple sold 8.7m iPods in the July to September quarter, making it the world's most popular music player, but the volume still lagged far behind music phones....

McAfee Stinger for iPods, MP3 Players
Posted Monday, October 30, 2006 1:20:06 PM by Blog57 Team
McAfee has announced the release of a new version of McAfee Stinger, which targets two Windows-based threats that are still being identified on the video iPod and MP3 devices. McAfee Stinger is a free, stand alone utility tool that can detect and remove specific viruses, including the W32/RJump.worm, also named the RJump.worm; and the W32/QQPass.worm aka the QQPass.worm. Protection for both threats has been available in McAfee products since September 25, 2006 and August 15, 2006, respectively. The W32/RJump.worm, which was discovered on June 20, 2006, reappeared on video iPod devices released by Apple late September. This uses the Python scripting language and is converted into a Windows portable executable file. It attempts to spread by copying itself to mapped and removable storage drives, and also opens a backdoor on an infected system....

Axxen Playdisc: music that comes with a free MP3 player
Posted Thursday, October 26, 2006 7:03:10 AM by Blog57 Team
I knew that MP3 players were getting cheaper and cheaper these days, and it is incredibly easy to find full albums on the internet for your downloading pleasure (let's keep it legal folks), but this is taking it to a whole new level. Axxen Korea has developed "Playdisc", a "new music album" that doubles as an MP3 player. It's like going to the store to buy a CD, only to have the disc double as a player as well. In this way, you can keep a physical library of your tunes, and shelve them away the old-fashioned way. When you want to listen to a particular album, you just stick in a pair of headphones and a single AAA battery. As it is meant to only store a single album, the Playdisc only has 128MB of memory.
